Our students at the CFA Challenge

Each year, the "alumni network" of the CFA Institute, namely the CFA Society, organises a contest called the CFA Challenge. Local competitions are organised by "chapter", in our case the Benelux chapter, and the winning team takes it then to the next step by region until the global final.

The local competition is organised this way:

  • A company is designated as the subject of the study, this year Alfen (The Netherlands).

  • The various groups of students receive guidelines, presentations of various members of the CFA Society working for asset management houses, and a CFA-accredited mentor, plus the academic supervisor of their respective institution.

  • An investment report is delivered.

  • The best teams can make a final presentation with all luxury of details.

This year, we had the pleasure to have Ghadi Kahil, Mathilde Pierroux, and Antoine Platteau to represent Solvay BS for the 2021 competition. The Covid sanitary crisis did not prevent this group from adding this extra workload on their shoulders on top of their official curriculum to do their best to participate to this exercise in a limited timeframe and 100% online this year, which makes the competition slightly more virtual.

Would you be interested into an analysis about Alfen by our students or see what a final delivery to the CFA challenge can look like, you can find it here:

2020 is the first year Solvay restarted participating actively to this challenge...since 2011.

In 2011, Quentin Bodart, Astrid Herinckx, Jonathan Lefèvre and Margaux van der Haert made it to the Western Europe final in Madrid, an excellent experience. That year, the Benelux chapter had chosen Binck Bank. Here are the report and presentation they devised at that time...
